It seems like every time we turn around, there’s a new scam targeting the elderly. Usually, they’re based out of “weird” places (our last report was on a big scam originating in Jamaica). But the Washington Post reports today on a big scam that’s been gaining traction — the “grandmother scam”. Historically, not much progress has been made in stopping this particular pest, because of difficulties in tracking down the perpetrators. But now major inroads are being made, and apparently Montreal is the “Queen City of the grandparent scam”. Not really the kind of thing you think of happening in Canada.
