Diabetes Over-Treated in Seniors

In this day and age, it’s hard not to be aware of the dangers of diabetes — and equally hard not to be aware that the disease has reached epidemic proportions in the U.S. Of course, diabetes is of particular concern to the elderly. But a recent study suggests that many seniors may be over-treated. Dangers from over-treatment include not only low blood-sugar levels, but also lowered blood pressure. The finding, published in JAMA Internal Medicine, include that only 27% and 19% respectively of those with such problems had their medications reduced.
