How Old Is Too Old for Aggressive Medical Care?

Well, the answer to that question is very personal. Everyone is different. Some nonagenarians are in better health than most sexagenarians. But two things that are perfectly clear are that the very-old population in the U.S. is continuing to grow quickly (those over the age of 89 have tripled in recent decades, and the group continues to grow); and that aggressive treatments once not given to the elderly are becoming more common place. Jimmy Carter’s recent battle has made headlines, but U.S. news takes a deeper look at the question.
