No, this has nothing to do with “death panels”. Actually, this might be a great idea. None of us like to think about our own, personal end of days — but we really should. After all, why leave these decisions in someone else’s hands? The idea behind the Medicare proposal is to compensate doctors for having these discussions, so that they’re more willing to take time out of their busy schedules to actually sit and talk with you. And sitting and talking to your doctor before making a decision around advance directives seems like something we should all do, anyhow.
