Everyone knows that the popularity of names change over time. Sometimes things get a little crazy, particularly when popular culture impacts naming; for example, Khaleesi (from Game of Thrones fame) is now more popular than Stacy. But ignoring anomalies like that, there tend to be generational trends in naming conventions. Senior Housing News recently did an analysis of the most popular names by gender in assisted living facilities. The results are more striking for the women than for the men (expect to meet a lot of Marys at your local assisted living complex), but the men’s names are interesting too. It’s fun to think about how our culture changes over time, and how that’s reflected in something as simple as a name.
