For years, so called “compounding creams” have been hawked to athletes and the elderly. Well, the FBI is now reportedly investigating fraud on the order of half a billion dollars over these creams. The majority of the fraud under investigation seems to be related to wholesale practices (defrauding insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid), but there are also reports of everything from prescriptions being refilled without being asked, to vending creams with no medicinal value. So, if you’re using one, make sure you’re keeping in touch with your doctor and pharmacist.
